Name a baker from Taiwan. Maybe you will think of Wu Pao-chun first. He is a world champion baker and owns several popular bakeries. There are books and a movie about him. He is surely a big name now. However, Wu's road to success was never easy.
說出一個來自台灣的麵包師傅名字。也許你首先會想到吳寶春。他是世界冠軍級的麵包師傅而且擁有幾家人氣麵包店。有好幾本書和一部電影都在講他的故事。他現在算是個大人物。然而，吳寶春的成功之路走來絕非容易。
Wu grew up in a very poor family of eight children. His father died when he was only a boy, and he had to help his mother. At 15, he went to Taipei and learned to make bread, but life did not treat the young man well. Wu was allergic to flour. When he was baking, he kept sneezing. Even worse, the skin on his hands and face turned red. Yet, his passion for baking kept him going. He also faced many other difficulties because of his poor education. Wu made up his mind to change things. He learned Japanese, English, and new baking skills. All his hard work paid off when Wu was 40 years old. In 2010, he won a top baking contest in France with his own special recipe.
吳在一個有八個孩子的低收入家庭中長大。他的父親在他還小的時候就去世了，他必須幫著母親養家。15 歲那年，他去了台北學做麵包，但事情並不如人意。吳對麵粉過敏。當他烘烤時會一直打噴嚏。更糟糕的是，他手和臉的皮膚會發紅。然而，他對烘焙的熱情使他繼續前進。由於他的學歷不好，他還遭遇許多其他困難。吳下定決心要改變這一切。他學習日語、英語和新的烘焙技術。吳寶春 40 歲時，他所有的辛勞得到了回報。2010 年，他憑藉自己的獨門食譜贏得了法國的頂尖烘焙大賽。
These days, Wu never stops thinking about new ways of baking. "To me, bread is art, not just food," he once said. Although Wu has traveled to Japan and Italy to learn from other bakers, he wants to give a local flavor to his bread. For this reason, he gets fresh ingredients from farmers in Taiwan. Wu always wants to learn more. In 2013, he went to the National University of Singapore and graduated with a Master's degree three years later. He also teaches other bakers to improve their skills. Wu got help from many people on his way to success. Now, he helps others. To Wu Pao-chun, the key to success is to keep on learning.
現今，吳寶春不曾停止思考新的烘焙方式。他曾說：「對我來說，麵包是藝術，而不僅僅是食物。」儘管吳曾遠赴日本和義大利向其他麵包師傅取經，但他也想把地方特色加進麵包裡。為此，他使用台灣農民的新鮮食材。吳一直想要學習更多東西。2013 年，他進了新加坡國立大學，並在三年後畢業取得碩士學位。他還教其他麵包師傅精進他們的技術。吳在成功的道路上得到過很多人的幫助。現在，他反過來幫助別人。對吳寶春而言，成功的關鍵就是持續不斷地學習。
