What is your dream? Where is it leading you? Almost twenty years ago, five high school boys had the same doubt, but they decided to follow their dream. Because they were all interested in playing music, they wanted to be heard by more people.
As John Lennon said, "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality." The first step to turning their dreams into reality was to play as an indie band. Sometimes they played for free as they just wanted a chance to go on stage. The boys performed at the Formoz Festival and kept sending their demo tapes to recording companies until they signed their first contract. In 1999, they released their first studio album as a band. The band is called Mayday. Because of their talent, Mayday soon gained a lot of local fans, especially young people, and received a Best Band nomination for the 2000 Golden Melody Awards.
Over the years, Mayday has become one of Taiwan's best rock bands and enjoyed huge success. They still release albums and hold concerts around the world and have won many awards. So, what makes Mayday so special? For some people, it's their musical style. Their songs have great melodies and rhythms, and the lyrics are very touching. They don't use bad language or complain about the world. Instead, their songs are full of positive energy. For others, it's their belief—young musicians can make a difference to the world. According to the band, their greatest influence is the English rock band the Beatles. They feel the same passion for making good music. As a result of the band's impact on the music industry, Mayday has been called the "Beatles of the Chinese world."
The five boys have grown into men and realized the dreams of their youth. Now, they have other dreams, such as helping young indie musicians succeed. In 2006, they set up a recording company, B'in Music; since then, they have signed Accusefive, Mixer and other talented indie bands. Just like Mayday, these groups are bringing exciting, original music to Taiwan—and to the world.
你的夢想是什麼？它會帶你到哪？大約二十年前，五個高中男生也有同樣的疑問，但他們決定追隨自己的夢想。因為他們都對演奏音樂感興趣，他們想被更多人聽到。
正如約翰．藍儂所說：「一個人做夢只是空想。一群人做夢就能成真。」讓夢想成真的第一步就是成為獨立樂團。有時他們免費表演，只為了有機會上舞台。男孩們在《野台開唱》表演，並不斷將他們的試聽帶寄到唱片公司，直到他們簽下第一份合約。1999 年，他們以樂團的形式發行了第一張錄音室專輯。樂團就叫做五月天。五月天憑藉著自己的才華，很快就獲得了國內大批歌迷的支持，尤其是年輕人，並獲得了 2000 年金曲獎最佳樂團提名。

這五個男孩已經長大成人，實現了他們年少時的夢想。現在，他們還有其他夢想，比如幫助年輕的獨立音樂人出頭天。2006 年，他們成立了「相信音樂」；從那以後，他們簽下了告五人、麋先生樂團和其他才華洋溢的獨立樂團。就像五月天一樣，這些樂團正在為台灣乃至全世界帶來激動人心的原創音樂。
